The October 2017 Visiting Teaching Message is about “Enfolding with Love those who Stray”.
I love this entire message. We have all had (or been) someone who has strayed from the gospel. According to the teaching of Jesus Christ, LOVE is always the answer. So in this counsel we are told to Love, Watch and Wait for our prodigal loved ones.
Love is an action word that invokes thoughts of service and attention. There are many books written about how we individually feel and give love. All of them actions.
In the scriptures Watch and Wait are both action words. We’ve seen watchmen on a tower actively searching their surroundings in an effort to protect. And when we Wait, like “wait on the Lord”, it’s not a passive wait like we picture at the DMV or something. We are doing all we can to love and serve and know what the Lord wants from us while we await his timing.
What I took from this beautiful quote is that we have three very specific things we can do to help those who are wandering.
The Lord made it so clear in Matthew 18:12 that He is concerned with the ONE. We, as his instruments on the earth, can pray to be aware of those that can use our specific help.
We can seek the ONE.Linda K. Burton summed it up so beautifully in the quote below. Heavenly father DOES love all of his children no matter where they are. And he absolutely wants them all back home.
President Henry B. Eyring said these hope filled words, “God has devised means to save each of his children.” I believe it’s our job to find out what role we can play in those means.
